A Bilingual Montessori-Based Classroom

(Please note, we conduct ~80% of our classes in Mandarin but we'll also communicate in English if we feel the child needs it.)

The Montessori Method of early-childhood education is based on hands-on learning, self-directed activity, and collaborative play. It involves a specifically prepared environment that is challenging and sparks joyful learning. Named after the first female Italian doctor turned educator in the 19th century, Dr. Maria Montessori’s vision was to foster innovative, creative, independent thinkers who can solve problems and who ultimately bring positive change to the world. Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and the founders of Google - Larry Page and Sergey Brin, credit their success to a Montessori education.

The Montessori curriculum for early-childhood offers a wide array of carefully designed materials in the 5 key areas of 1) Language 2) Math 3) Sensorial (5 senses, fine motor) 4) Practical life (care of self, environment, manners & movement) and 5) Culture (Geography, Zoology, Botany, History, Science, Art & Music)

In addition to holding Montessori classes in an immersive Mandarin & English speaking environment we will also hold additional enrichment programs including:

Singing: Vocal and pitch/ear training
Traditional Chinese Culture: Classical Chinese story telling (Di Zi Gui, Three Character Classic etc)
Chinese dance: Basic training and folk dances
Music: Piano, Orff music education (combines dance, music & various rhythmic instruments)

Sensory integration training: obstacle courses
Cooking, Art & Craft
'Mommy & Me' Classes (interactive dance/ music/singing classes for mommies & 6-month to 4 year olds!)

Accelerated English Reading Programs: ChildrenLearningReading.org and using singing & phonics with HookedOnPhonics.com
Polymath Training: Hundreds of fun 5 minute offline games training children (as young as three), in the 4 key areas of polymath thinking 1) pattern recognition 2) pattern design 3) analogy & 4) real time composition. This award-winning method has been an effective way (without any use of fancy technology or computers) to improve a child's 'inventive IQ' and ability to learn new things fast (please visit Stages.Global)

Meditation and Qi-Gong Exercises

We will also be conducting meditation and qi-gong classes for the children to help them calm their minds and bodies...the gateway to their spiritual development.

A Custom Built & Rich Learning Environment

From a self-playing grand piano (brand new Yamaha GB1k), state of the art multi-media facilities ('The Frame' Samsung TV system that blends in as artwork above our fireplace) to a custom built bathroom for 2 to 5 year olds, a downstairs play area with indoor and outdoor bouncing house, indoor mini-basketball, table-tennis, and a wide range of outdoor activities; a newly built playground with a large mulch area, and a self contained garden located on a private 3 acre property with a fenced off backyard...we’re excited to invite you to our Little Star Home School!

Where is our location?

Our in person classes will be held in the beautiful town of Mount Hope, New York (10 minutes from Middletown and right next to Otisville). We will also be holding online classes for certain programs so do fill out the form below if you're interested!

Mika Hale is a classically trained opera and jazz singer. A child vocal prodigy, she has over 20 years of experience in professional acting and commercial voice work as well as 15 years experience as an acting teacher for students of all ages and backgrounds.

As an actress, Mika’s exceptional talent was recognized at the age of 8, when she was the youngest student to be accepted to study at the notable Aaron Copland camp. Her work and performances have been sought after by major brands such as Honda and McDonalds, and have been seen at a wide range of major events, from New York theaters to the Super Bowl.

Mika is dedicated to helping students achieve their dreams in the arts, particularly in acting, singing and musical theater. She has also been a teacher at Northern Academy of the Arts, from 2017 to 2020, teaching voice, drama and chorus. Mika grew up at a Montessori School herself from the ages of 2-4 where her mother was the principal. She has 2 beautiful daughters aged 14 and 16 and absolutely loves being with little kiddies around that 3-4 age!

Mika will be a full-time teacher at Little Star Home School and will be focusing on teaching English, performance, and her first love - music and singing. Her mission is to recreate 'The Sound of Music' in our little hills at Mount Hope, and to teach Kai and anyone else interested how to develop perfect pitch or at least sing in tune.

Xixi Deng

A third-generation early childhood teacher, Xixi grew up at her mother’s and aunt’s Montessori schools (the first and largest chain in Hainan Island, China), helping out in various aspects of teaching as well as management since the age of 9.

Xixi is a computer science & technology graduate from Tianjin University of Commerce in 2011. She also obtained her American Montessori School Early Childhood credential in 2016 from the Westside Montessori Teacher Education Program in New York. Fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese she leads the Montessori inspired component of Little Star Home School (LSHS) providing an immersive Mandarin language environment.

Back when she was 10, Xixi won first prize at a National Children's Painting Competition in China. From the age of 8 she started dancing, and during her college years, she was the principal dancer at her University dance troupe. Her specialties include a comprehensive understanding of the Montessori Method of child-development as well as teaching Chinese Dance and Mandarin through creative, multi-sensory activities, fun and games.

The mother of 2 young boys Kai (3.5 y.o.) and Lee-Hong (2 y.o.), she has a knack for cooking, in particular, local noodles from her hometown in Guangxi.

Kean is the founder of STAR Producer Academy and is a leading authority on personal branding & video marketing for experts and authors. Over the past 25+ years, with an eclectic mix of Actuarial mathematics, tech and media startups, Kean has worked with Fortune 100 companies as well as the biggest brands in the thought leadership space. His clients include the likes of Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuk and Robert Kiyosaki (Author of Rich Dad Poor Dad).

The producer of the internationally acclaimed documentary film "Free China: The Courage to Believe“ (which was an Oscar Contender in 2014), Kean was also a former Under 18 Australian junior Chess Champion (Victoria) and award-winning pianist before his teens.

Kean grew up in Australia (Malaysian born Chinese heritage) and went to school at one of most prestigious schools in Melbourne where he was dux of Mathematics and one of the highest ranked students in the state. He is also a human rights activist and award-winning film-maker/TV host and anchor.

Currently, he lives with his mother, along with his 2 young boys, his wife Xixi, and a cute groundhog who's under the detached garage in the backyard. While he runs his business downstairs most of the day, he is looking forward to teaching mini-table tennis, polymath games & Chess using a particular method that incorporates fun stories for children as young as 3.
